1956 The State Forest Department reorganized.
1965 Trade of Tendu Patta was nationalized to remove middlemen and to increase income and living standards of poor villagers.
1969 Other minor forest products like Chebulic Myrobalan, Gums, Mahua Flower, Sal Seeds nationalized.
1971 Trade of important timber species like Teak, Sal, Shisam etc. nationalized.
1973 Trade of Bamboo nationalized.
1975 M.P State Forest Development Corporation created to enhance productivity of forest. Loan from financial institutions procured for viable forestry schemes.
1976 Harvesting of timber and fuelwood taken up by the Forest Department, increasing the income of the poor and relieving them from the clutches of middlemen.
1980
  • Social Forestry Division was established.
  • USAID project launched to assist afforestation in non-forest areas of villages and urban centers.
1981 In view of decreasing density of forest areas, complete ban on felling was imposed in Bhopal, Ratlam,Gwalior, Rewa and Dhar Districts.
1984 Madhya Pradesh Minor Forest Produce (Trade and Development) Cooperative Federation established.
1986 The ban on felling extended to Rajgarh, Jhabua, Tikangarh, Indore, Vidisha and Khargaon districts.
1988 The ban extended again to Satna,Mandsour, Durg, Guna and Narsingpur Districts.
1989 A Three tier cooperative structure established under M.P. MFP Federation.
1991
  • Government resolution on joint Forest Management issued
  • Ban on harvesting in all protected areas.
1994
  • The task force was constituted for protection, conservation and trade of medicinal plants.
  • State Forest Research Institute Jabalpur was accorded autonomy.
  • Simplification in the Transit Rules for forest products.
  • Revision of Nistar Policy.
  • Committed supply of forest produce to industry abolished.
1995
  • Application on modern technology in preparation of Working Plan introduced.
  • Working Plan Divisions constituted.
  • The World Bank assisted Forestry Project launched.
1997 Regional Sal Research Centers was established at Bilaspur.
1999 Lok Vaniki scheme launched to promote private forestry.
2000
  • New state of Chattisgarh carved out.
  • A scheme started for development and conservation of Medicinal Plants.
2001
  • Government resolution on JFM revised.
