The World Bank has agreed for the preparation of Madhya
Pradesh Community Forestry Management Project.
M.P. Forest Department with the assistance of World Bank has initiated
the process of preparation of the project.
The main objective of the proposed project is
"To strengthen participatory systems of natural
resource management and marketing to improve and sustain the livelihoods of
forest dependent people".
"The project intends to undertake following steps to
accelerate the process of shift from Joint Forest Management to Community
Forest Management:"-

To create
environmental policy and institutional involvement.

To
strengthen community organizations so that the weaker sections (Women/Scheduled
caste/Scheduled tribe/landless etc.) are benefitted from such change.
- To ensure beneficial returns to the
community by increasing productivity of the forest and their
sustainable use

For the preparation of this project, the Forest Department intends to
consult persons/ groups/public representatives/Non Governmental Organizations
who have interest in forest management and the welfare of people dependent on
forests
You are, therefore, requested that if you have
any suggestions to offer for the preparation of the project, you may send them
to this office or any field office of M.P. Forest Department (Conservators of
Forest, Divisional Forest Officer (Territorial) by 31.05.2002.Suggestions can also be sent through the
website of the department (www.mpforest.org) or through e-mail
(pdmpfp@sancharnet.in).The department
is organizing one-day workshop on June 7th 2002 at 9 A.M at RCVP Norohna Academy
of Administration, Bhopal.Persons who are willing to participate in
this workshop to offer their views are cordially invited.It would be
appropriate
that the persons who intend to participate in the workshop may
kindly bring along their written suggestions.Persons
willing to participate in the workshop may kindly intimate this office well in
time.
